A local businessman was last week arraigned before the maintenance court answering to allegations of child neglect. Lewis Sambiri who runs several businesses in the city, was hauled to court by his estranged wife Winnie Chipendo, who claimed US$370 for the upkeep of their minor child. Lewis argued that Winnie was asking for too much since she was the one who had thrown him out of the house with the help of her lover. In response, Lewis offered US$70 since he had other responsibilities. Presiding magistrate Barbara Mateko ordered Lewis to pay US$80 monthly as maintenance for his child.
