The past three months have witnessed major breakthroughs in advocacy efforts to break barriers to education for the girl child in Africa. Calls for African governments to provide free sanitary ware and feminine hygiene products for the girl child in schools have been growing louder of late. Provision of free sanitary ware is seen as a necessary strategy to enable girls to more fully enjoy the right to quality education. The positive developments in Kenya and Botswana policies with regards this issue gives hope to the child rights sector in Zimbabwe that it is indeed possible for the GoZ to provide free sanitary ware for the girl child in schools.
