Two children died on the spot last week after a tractor they were travelling in was hit by a truck haulage at the narrow Pembi Bridge in Mvurwi. The two children aged 5 and 7 were travelling with their mother while sitting on the tractor’s mudguard. They were coming from the field around 7pm when a haulage truck travelling to Mvurwi crushed into the back of the tractor. According to Mashonaland Central Provincial spokesperson Assistant Inspector Petros Masikati confirmed the accident and urged tractors owner to put reflectors on them. Mazowe North Legislator Cde Campion Mugweni assisted the bereaved family with $400 while the haulage company and tractor owner chipped in with $1000 and $80 respectively. The accident happened barely two months after a Mvurwi-bound truck haulage caught fire that reduced 30 tonnes of fertilizer to ashes just 100m from the bridge. The MP called for the completion of the Pembi Bridge construction to avoid more carnage as a result of the narrowness of the bridge.
