Armed soldiers are now a familiar sight at public schools in the wake of the on going strike by teachers resulting in parents, guardians and learners living in fear. Teachers’ Unions told the Dailynews said there has been a heavy presence of military personnel especially n high density suburbs who make visits at public schools.The President of the ARTUZ said there is urgent need to demilitarise schools. He said this is against the Oslo Safe Schools Declaration of 2015. He said they encourage the Zimbabwean government to sign the declaration and guarantee safety of learners and teachers in school. Members of the Senate was told that the ZRP had asked for the presence of soldiers to protect children and teachers from the criminals who want to abuse them.
