School authorities should ensure a safe environment for pupils as they maybe answerable for negligence says former Education minister David Coltart. This follows an unfortunate incident that occurred on Friday 1 March where 59 grade four pupils at Sigombe Primary School in Bulawayo were hospitalized after eating poisonous Jatropha fruits. Coltart commented saying that a headmaster is responsible for seeing to it that the environment is safe for the pupils. Mpilo Clinical director Solwayo Ngwenya commented that institutions dealing with children especially should not plant Jatropha tree as they are harmful and puts lives at stack. the pupils were rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital were they were treated and are reported to be well.
