CHEGUTU West MP Dexter Nduna has expressed concerns over the growing number of street children who do not have national identification in urban centres around the country. He has called upon government so that they get quantified before they spread into rural areas.” What measures are being put in place by government in order to register these street kids? They will otherwise become internally displaced persons as long as they are not quantified. They are not registered, they do not have birth certificates and this will end up spreading to the rural areas”, Nduna said. Home affairs deputy minister Mike Madiro ,however said with regards to personal documents and registration, government does not have a practice or policy of going out to register street kids.”The ministry facilitates those who come forward to get personal registration documents. As far as facilitation is concerned,if the relevant ministry maybe Social Welfare, they come forward for a special programme that they may be considered”,he said.
