IT’S no secret that today’s youths are viewed as a generation preoccupied with partying, under-age drinking, drugs and premature sex among other social ills but one group is defying the odds, crafting themselves into a respectable and charitable organisation that prides itself in assisting the needy. With the winter season setting in, a grouping of young people based in Bulawayo — Youths for Innovation Trust — have embarked on a programme known as the Jacket Donation aimed at collecting warm clothing from well wishers for donation to street kids in the city. The Youths for Innovation Trust is a group of 200 volunteer youths from all walks of life and with various set skills that was formed in 2015 and operates in Bulawayo, Matabeleland North and South Provinces. Youths for Innovation Trust prides itself as a network of young citizens that thrives to bring forth youth development through social innovation. The organisation believes youths must abandon the “handouts culture” and instead be proactive in tackling issues that affect them as well as fostering a culture of volunteering for social development. Youths for Innovation Trust is self funded.
