The most debatable issue in the Marriages Bill is the age of consent where it states that a person can have sex from 16 years but cannot be married before the age of 18 years, Professor Lovemore Madhuku has said. Speaking at the Women’s workshop to unpack the Marriage Bill, Professor Lovemore Madhuku Bill said child marriages are properly prohibited even by the constitution of Zimbabwe while having sex does not have any age of consent. Most women attending the workshop provoked the issue of young adults and children having sexual relationships before marriage and before the age of 18 years, which however leads to most of early marriages and unwanted pregnancies.
